Our church women’s retreat last weekend had to be one of the best I’ve attended. It was...remarkable. Not just because our topic was on being remarkable, and not because of a high-octane speaker or performer or band. It was remarkable because of the CASUAL and relaxed -- but worthwhile -- agenda. We were given a great gift -- we were given TIME. We had time to sleep, time to chat, time to share with one another, time to be introduced and then to actually get to know each other. We had time to take a walk in the afternoon, drink coffee around the fire, relax on the sofa, read, and listen to music. Yes, we had teaching sessions, which were dynamic and fun and informative -- and we still remember most of what was taught. Our heads were not crammed with hours of teaching and note taking. Instead, the sessions were short and sweet - and memorable. They contained the four secret ingredients: Holiness (God’s Word), Humor, Honesty, and Heartwarming stories. I did not return home exhausted and bleary eyed from eating, meeting, eating again, meeting again, eating some more, meeting some more, staying up late, and getting up early to do it all over again.
Like I said, it was the best I’ve ever attended. And I’ve attended more than my share.
