Wow. Montana is on fire.
Last Saturday, we saw the plume of a large fire while driving on Hwy. 200 between West Glacier and East Glacier. Not long after we passed through the area, the highway was closed. The fire exploded on Sunday from 1,000 to 5,000 acres. It is one of several fires in the state.
Today, I stood outside of Starbucks and chatted with a friend for about 45 minutes. We noticed ashes falling and accumulating on the table. The sky is very dim, smoke is thick, and the air is acrid. Not a good day for being outside, but even inside we smell the smoke. Interestingly, we are MANY miles from any of these fires.
