“Take a practice run.”
I like those words. They mean you can give something a try without consequence. It would be great if we could take a practice run at life, see how our choices turn out, and then if I the outcome isn’t how we pictured it, go back and start again. The reason this is a bad idea is that other people are affected by our lives and our choices.
But a lot of people are trying it anyway.
Our culture is saturated with books and seminars on how to do every tiny-little-thing we will ever have to do, from applying lipstick to leading a mega-corporation. There isn’t anything we face that someone isn’t ready to take our hand and guide us step by step through the process.
So why aren’t our collective lives better than they are? We are still taking practice runs instead of applying what we’ve learned.
